Autumn's Goddess

Finally finished a painting! i know it's been a while but I hope it's worth the wait. Anyway...this is submitted for *mizzd-stock & *Lisajen-stock's 2006 Autumn contest using both of their stock (obviously)

anyway...the subject...

Autumn's Goddess leads Summer's Goddess out as she puts all of the plants into hibernation heralding the Winter Goddess' return. Why is Summer's Goddess blindfolded? Well that's obvious...though she understands the reasoning behind the change of seasons it still breaks her heart to see all the plants wither and die so she is blindfolded to spare her the heartache or else she would refuse to leave and the earth would be consumed with eternal summer...

Technicals:
sketch: 1 hour
painting: 5 hours (I cheated & used a hairdryer to speed up the drying time )
Watercolor on Bristol with some acrylic white for details spattering...
